Accused Iqaluit spouse-killer may opt for plea agreement

Eulalie Ussak, 53, faces second-degree murder charge

A trial scheduled Oct. 22 for Eulalie Ussak, 53, of Iqaluit, charged with second-degree murder in the 2009 death of her husband, did not proceed at the Nunavut Court of Justice as planned.

That’s because lawyers for the defense and prosecution asked Judge Sue Cooper for an adjournment until Oct. 23 so they can continue discussions.

In this kind of situation, a plea bargain is often likely.

Ken McFarlane, 50, died after a shack in Apex burned Dec. 12, 2009 at around 8:00 p.m.

Kenneth MacFarlane’s body was found among the charred remains of the shack, near house 3210 in Apex.

Ussak was charged at the time with second-degree murder and arson.
