Bring your dancing shoes to the Storehouse in Iqaluit this Saturday, Sept. 29.

The local blues-rock band, The Trade-Offs, formerly called the JJs, will release their debut album “Red.”

“We’ve been working day and night on this for months and we are very proud to put this together from start to finish here in our hometown,” said Joshua Qaumariaq, who plays guitar and provides lead vocals for the band.

Qaumariaq was working full time during the recording of the album, so the band got together whenever they could, he said.

“It was good to take our time on it and I think it worked out really well,” said Qaumariaq, who started the JJs with Jeff Maurice.

The two were later joined by band member Kris Mullaly.

On Sept. 29, the band will play songs they’ve performed before in Iqaluit. They’ll also showcase a new song that Qaumariaq wrote and dedicated to his parents.

All of The Trade Off’s music “very personal” to Qaumariaq, who says there is “a lot of soul” in it.

Qaumariaq, Maurice and Mullaly will be joined by Jamal Shirley on lead guitar, Joanne Ashley on background vocals, Paul White on keyboards and Nick Levert-Cui on saxophone.

Tickets are $5 and will be available at the door starting at 5 p.m. The show starts at 9:30 p.m.

A portion of the ticket proceeds will be donated to the Nakasuk School Arts Program.
