Pangnirtung RCMP seize alcohol, arrest youth

Police in Pangnirtung seized seven bottles of alcohol May 17 — and charged a youth with Unlawful Possession of Liquor under Section 88 of the Nunavut Liquor Act.

Acting on a tip, members of the RCMP detachment went to the Pangnirtung airport and seized seven bottles of liquor with were seized from two local residents, a May 23 news release from the RCMP said.

They also charged the youth under the Nunavut Liquor Act.

“Preventing the sale of illicit liquor is a high priority in the RCMP’s effort to reduce crime in the community of Pangnirtung,” the news release said.

Pangnirtung remains one of Nunavut’s officially dry communities.

Police asked anyone who has information about the illegal sale of alcohol to contact their local RCMP detachment or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
