Photo: Cape Dorset 2012 print collection opens Oct. 20

Qaluituk Kingwatsiaq’s “Tarrilikitaarq” (Butterfly) is part of the Cape Dorset 2012 print collection, a yearly exhibition and print sale that opened this Saturday, Oct. 20 at 1 p.m at the Nunatta Sunakkutaangit Museum in Iqaluit. Leslie Boyd Ryan, director of Dorset Fine Arts in Toronto, the marketing arm of the West Baffin Eskimo Co-operative, says the piece has a special glow and that it may be “bird wings stitched together to look like a butterfly.” You can see more from Cape Dorset artists such as Kenojuak Ashevak, Mayoreak Ashoona, Shuvinai Ashoona and Tim Pitsiulak at the exhibition.
