Heavy snow brings Iqaluit to a standstill again April 25.

Heavy snow brings Iqaluit to a standstill again April 25. “Due to severe weather conditions, the City of Iqaluit has suspended municipal services until further notice,” said an early morning advisory from the City April 25. Schools, the Nunavut Court of Justice and several businesses are closed today and people were advised to stay off the roads due to reduced visibility, high winds and unsafe road conditions. Plows were out in full force in an attempt to clear drifting snow since some streets were effectively impassable. For updates regarding the status of municipal services, you can call the blizzard line at 979-5300. For April 25, Environment Canada said winds in the capital could gust at up to 70 kilometres an hour, diminishing as the day goes on. (PHOTO BY THOMAS ROHNER)
