The Silver Explorer cruise ship, operated by Silversea Expeditions, arrived in Cambridge Bay Aug. 24 allowing 130 or so passengers to wander through town and attend the Nunavut Arts and Crafts Association arts festival which was conveniently under way in that Kitikmeot community. The ship was purpose-built, according to the company website, with a hull designed for pushing through ice floes. A fleet of Zodiacs allow guests to visit sites and communities along their Arctic journey. On board, guests can enjoy numerous luxurious amenities including a spa, library, theatre and Internet cafe.
