QIA schedules Pond Inlet by-election for Dec. 10

Pond Inlet's community director, Phillip Paneak, resigns for personal reasons

The Qikiqtani Inuit Association is calling a by-election for its community director position in Pond Inlet due to the resignation of Phillip Paneak for personal reasons.

“We thank Phillip for his service over the years with QIA’s board. He’s been a tireless worker for his constituents in Pond Inlet and his presence will be missed on the board,” QIA president Okalik Eegeesiak said.

With Paneak no longer on the QIA board of directors, the QIA plans to hold a by-election to elect another board member who will serve a two-year term.

Nominations open Oct. 29 and close Nov. 12 at 5:00 p.m. eastern time.

The by-election is scheduled for Dec. 10, on the same day as QIA’s regularly scheduled elections when eligible voters will select a new secretary-treasurer for QIA, as well as community directors for Arctic Bay, Cape Dorset, Grise Fiord, Qikiqtarjuaq and Resolute Bay.
