Québec Solidaire produces a Green Plan for northern development

"Unlike the Plan Nord of Jean Charest, our Green Plan will benefit everyone"

With the Quebec election less than a month away, Québec Solidaire, a left-wing, feminist and sovereignist political party, has come up with a plan designed as an alternative to the Liberal’s Plan Nord scheme for the development of northern Quebec.

The party, which goes by the abbreviation QS, released its Green Plan Aug. 6.

“The Green Plan is an ambitious project that aims to transform our economy and create shared prosperity. Economic projects proposed by QS will create 166,000 new jobs in growth sectors such as electrified public transportation,” said Francoise David, the party’s candidate in the riding of Gouin.

The Green Plan is the opposite of the Plan Nord, which “swallows billions of dollars in public funds to service large foreign companies here to siphon off our natural resources,” the QS news release said.

If elected, the QS would use these resources to develop public services and projects with cooperatives.

The QS said it wants to end the culture of massive subsidies to large private companies.

“Faced with the challenges of ecological crisis and rising social inequalities, we must get the economy to serve the people, not vice versa,” said David. “Unlike the Plan Nord of Jean Charest, our Green Plan will benefit everyone. It will create stable jobs with decent pay, both for women and for men, and improve working conditions in all sectors of our economy. Women have been forgotten by the major economic priorities of the Liberal government. “

A medical humanitarian, Sylvain Couture, is running in the Ungava riding, which includes Nunavik.
