By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

During the afternoon of Aug. 20, police in Clyde River were attempting to peaceably end a standoff involving a “distraught” man barricaded inside a residence.

Shortly before 10 a.m. on Aug. 20, members of the Clyde River RCMP detachment responded to a complaint involving a man in house 103.

In a news release sent out at about 2 p.m., the RCMP said that police currently remain on the scene and that members of the community have been advised to stay away from the area.

The news release did not say whether the man was armed.

But the RCMP asks anyone in contact with the man “to advise him to contact the police to arrange for a peaceful end to the situation.”

The news release said “precautions” have been taken to maintain public safety.
