IQALUIT — Nunavut’s Dene population may be small, but the territory still wants to field a Dene Games team for the 2002 Arctic Winter Games.

This weekend at Nakasuk school in Iqaluit there will be a Dene Games development workshop. The event will be the first step in organizing Nunavut’s first-ever team in the sport.

On Friday night, a video will be shown explaining the types and techniques of Dene Games.

Then, on Saturday at Nakasuk, there will be demonstrations of the stick-pull and the pole-push events. On Sunday, hand games, the “snowsnake” and the finger-pull contests will occur.

Nunavummiut interested in getting involved with the team are invited to turn out on the weekend. Those who can’t make it can call organizer Yvonne Camsell at 979-0804 for more information.
