Nunavut’s chief coroner appointed

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

IQALUIT — Nunavut Justice Minister Jack Anawak has officially confirmed the appointment of Elizabeth Copland of Whale Cove as Nunavut’s chief coroner. Anawak said that Copland was chosen because of her experience within her community, where she has also served as community coroner.

Copland will continue to work out of Whale Cove. She will be involved in the investigation of circumstances surrounding any unexplained deaths and preside over any inquests that may be required.

“One of her important tasks will be to give support through training and advice to others in the field,” Anawak said.

An administrative coroner will be also hired in the near future.
