Ottawa gives $5 million to anti-violence task force

The federal government has given the Native Women’s Association of Canada $5 million to conduct research, raise awareness and recommend government policy to tackle the high rates of violence against aboriginal women in Canada.

NWAC is now looking for people to head its task force, known as Sisters in Spirit. The organization has job openings in research, policy development, media coordination, communications and education.

Full job descriptions are available at www.arlynreid.net. All candidates must relocate to Ottawa. Deadline for applications is Jan. 13.

“It is estimated that over 500 aboriginal women are missing and/or murdered in this country,” a press release from NWAC said.
