KIA seeks nominations for VP finance

Org to hold by-election Dec. 10

The Kitikmeot Inuit Association will hold a by-election Dec. 10 to fill the vacant executive position left by the Oct. 5 resignation of Dennis Lyall.

Nominations for the election open Oct. 29 and close Nov. 5.

To file nomination papers, candidates must be voting members of the KIA. As well, they must not be serving as a member of Parliament or a legislative assembly.

And, anyone convicted of an indictable offense or of a crime involving “fraud, breach of trust or immoral conduct” within the five years before the opening of the nominations is ineligible to run.

Others who are ineligible to be nominated or stand as a candidate include people who have owed $500 or more to the KIA or a subsidiary organization for more than 90 days.

A criminal records check must also be submitted with the nomination papers, said a recent notice calling for nominations from the returning officer, Martina Maniyogina.
