Rankin Inlet’s new $37-million, 46-bed correctional centre should open in early 2012, if there’s enough staff housing for its 45 workers, Nunavut’s justice minister, Keith Peterson, said March 8 during the territorial’s review of his department’s budget request for 2011-12. “The difficulty will be ensuring that there’s housing available for positions when the positions are staffed,” Peterson said. A total of 33 housing staff housing units were slated to be built for staff at the future jail. (PHOTO BY JANE GEORGE)
