Can Iqaluit take more “planned” power outages?

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

I really question whether any other city in Canada would ever have a planned power outage for eight hours — which turned out to be nine hours in Apex.

Coming on the heels of the unplanned, poorly orchestrated and highly disruptive rotating blackouts three weeks ago was just bad luck.

However, also knowing what Rankin Inlet went through a couple of winters ago, my confidence in Qulliq Energy is exactly zero.

We are now spending many thousands of dollars to gird ourselves from future midwinter failures – this is not something that many Nunavummiut can afford to do.

If those who run our public utilities, perhaps with some prodding from our elected officials, could get their act together such that we could confidently know we will be able to see, eat, communicate and most importantly stay warm, we would all be very grateful.
