Filmmaker Zach Kunuk becomes the QIA’s new director for Igloolik

The QIA held a by‐election April 30 in Igloolik to fill the community’s seat on its board.

Award-winning filmmaker Zach Kunuk has another role to fill: he’s the newly-elected board member for Igloolik on the Qikiqtani Inuit Association’s board of directors, says an April 30news release on the “unofficial Igloolik by-election results.

The QIA held a by‐election April 30 in Igloolik to fill the community’s seat on its board.

Kunuk won with 52 votes, the news release said.

Solomon Allurut received 39 votes, Lucasi Ivvalu 38 votes, Gordon Qaunaq 37 votes, Joe Immaroitok 24 votes, and Dominic Angutimarik got 17 votes.

“Based on the results of the by‐election, I declare Zacharias Kunuk elected. Official results will be confirmed by a subsequent press release. Zacharias Kunuk will serve as QIA’s board of directors representative for Igloolik until December 31, 2014,” said the QIA’s chief returning officer Joanasie Akumalik.

QIA’s next board of directors meeting takes place May 14 to 17, 2012 in Iqaluit.
