Iqaluit airport tops in take-offs and landings in Nunavut, Nunavik: StatsCan

The busiest airports in Nunavut and Nunavik remain busy.

That’s according to a Feb. 15 Statistics Canda report on aircraft movement statistics at Nav Canada flight service stations, which show that the busiest airport in these two northern regions can be found in Iqaluit.

During the month of November 2012 there were a total of 1,156 take-offs and landings from Iqaluit’s airport, including 128 for charters and 12 for miitary flights.

On the busiest day of that month there were 17 take-offs and landings in one hour and a total of 76 take-offs and landings on the busiest day of the month.

Kuujjuaq followed close beind with 942 take-offs and landings during the month of November 2012. Of these, 70 involved charters.

The busiest hour during that month saw 18 take-offs and landings, with 65 flights either coming or going on the busiest day of the month..

In Rankin Inlet, there were 877 fight take-offs and landings in November 2012. Fourteen involved charters and six were military flights.

The busiest hour during that month saw 10 take-offs and landings with 53 flights either coing or going on the busiest day of the month..

Overall, there were 438,610 aircraft take-offs and landings at the 93 Canadian airports with Nav Canada air traffic control towers and flight service stations in November 2012 compared with 436,009 movements in November 2011.
