Investigators have ruled out foul play in the drowning death of Tommy Tatatuapik Jr. of Arctic Bay, Nunavut’s chief coroner said Oct. 15.
The body of the 41-year-old man was discovered in the port town of Sisimiut, Greenland Oct. 10.
Tatatuapik Jr. worked as a crewmember on the 100-foot fishing vessel Savuk, which had docked in Sisimiut Oct. 9 after fishing for turbot in the Davies Strait.
His body was found the next morning floating in the harbour approximately 300 metres from the Savuk, chief coroner Padma Surumala said this week.
Tatatuapik was seen drinking the night before his body was found, Greenland officials said.
Suramala flew to Greenland to investigate the death, along with Lootie Toomasie, the CEO of Arctic Fishery Alliance, which owns the Savuk.
Tatatuapik’s body returned to Nunavut after the investigation into the death was concluded Oct. 14.
