An Igloolik man faces four more charges of attempted murder in connection with an Oct. 4 shooting spree in the community that left an RCMP member wounded.

Donovan Iyerak appeared in the Nunavut Court of Justice in Iqaluit via video conference from the Baffin Correctional Centre in Iqaluit, Jan. 6, to hear that he now faces eight charges of attempted murder.

The four new counts, as well as an added charge of using a firearm with intent to endanger life, are in addition to a list of charges laid by police Oct. 6.

These included four counts of attempted murder and one for discharge of a firearm.

Iyerak also faces charges of assault and uttering threats related to other incidents alleged to have occurred around the same time as the shooting spree.

Defence lawyer Alison Crowe told Justice Robert Kilpatrick that she and her client are not ready to proceed with a defence until they received “full disclosure” from the Crown.

“We are still waiting for more information from the Crown,” she said, in particular, files on a “ballistics report” related to the shooting incident.

Crown lawyer Zachary Horricks said reports on firearms that went off in the incident would be complete in a month’s time, and that information related to “domestic charges” must be clarified.

Both lawyers agreed with Kilpatrick to put the matter over to Feb. 24 at 9:30 a.m.
