Photo: Clyde River holds its own rally to support court challenge

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

Several dozen Clyde River residents gather outside the hamlet office April 20, singing, drum dancing and holding signs to show their support for a long-awaited legal challenge launched by their friends and neighbours against the National Energy Board and which finally unfolded at the Federal Court of Canada in Toronto April 20. The people of Clyde River are trying to overturn an NEB decision which allows a consortium of companies to conduct a comprehensive, five-year seismic testing program off the coast of Baffin Island during summer in search of oil and gas reserves beneath the sea. Local residents say they were not properly consulted and don't trust that the sound gun, to be used in the project, will be safe for marine life. (PHOTO BY GEORGE IQALUKJUAK)
