Tanya Tagaq, seen here winning the prestigious 2014 Polaris Prize, has been nominated for yet another award: Artist of the Year in this year’s Independent Music Awards. Sponsored by SiriusXM, the “Indies” honour the achievements of Canadian and international artists in the independent music sector, according to their website. Winners — in numerous categories from folk to electronic and soul — are determined by a combination of fan and industry voting and will be announced at a gala ceremony at the Sheraton Centre in Toronto on May 9.
