Photo: Governor General honours Joe Karetak for 2013 Arviat rescue

Joe Karetak Sr. of Arviat with Governor General David Johnston at Rideau Hall in Ottawa this past May 1. Johnston presented Karetak with a Medal of Bravery for rescuing the pilot of a submerged helicopter who had attempted to pick up Karetak and his son from an ice floe near Arviat on Jan. 9, 2013.
