Photo: Head shaving nets more than $4,000 for the “Women in Action”

Janet Brewster and Keith Peterson, MLA for Cambridge Bay and a Nunavut cabinet minister, show off their newly-shaven heads. The two lost their hair May 4 in Cambridge Bay for a good cause, when volunteers shaved many heads to raise money for the “Women in Action- Steps of Hope” walk, which starts May 7. That’s when walkers Brewster, Elisabeth Hadlari, Jamie McInnis, Donna Olsen-Hakongak, Cambridge Bay mayor Jeannie Ehaloak and Nunavut Commissioner Edna Elias set off on a 220- kilometre walk across Coronation Gulf from Bay Chimo to Cambridge Bay. So far they’ve raised more than $60,000 for breast cancer research — with the head-shave adding another $4,420 to the pot. The proceeds from the walk support the Alberta Cancer Foundation and will be directed towards research to finding a cure for cancer. You can also donate online at: www.albertacancer.ca/womeninaction.
