Photo: Inuksuk students present posters at Iqaluit Heritage Fair

Jessica Matthews, 14, shows off her poster on the Hudson’s Bay Company at Inuksuk High School’s heritage fair Jan. 17. “I showed how the Hudson’s Bay Company became a better and bigger company and how it helped form our nation,” Matthews said. Dozens of students made posters on a variety of subjects, and members of the public were encouraged to walk around the school’s gymnasium and learn a few things. “Something about the heritage fair — being open like this to the community — it provides greater meaning to the students,” said teacher Pat McDermott. “It’s not just a mark and a test, not just a mark and an exam. There’s real meaning behind their learning,” he said. (PHOTO BY DAVID MURPHY)
