The Nunavik Theatre Company presents Kautjajuk at the Katittavik Town Hall Theatre in Kuujjuaq May 4, a play about an ill-treated orphan that was written in Inuktitut with help from Adamie Kalingo of Ivujivik and performed for the first time in Salluit in 2011. After the performance, the company held theatre workshops open to children between eight and 12 years old where they learned and rehearsed the Kautjajuk script. They’ll be performing the show tonight, Mon., June 20, at the Katittavik Town Hall Theatre at 6 p.m. A number of local people and organizations collaborated on the project including Nunavik Creations, which designed and provided costumes, Mattiusi Iyaituk who worked on the masks, Inukjuak Unaaq men’s association which made the props, Etua Snowball who created the music and Acme Services Scéniques which produced the sets along with images from photographer Robert Fréchette.
