Photo: Man of the hour: Clyde River’s Jerry Natanine attends seismic hearing

Clyde River Mayor Jerry Natanine talks to supporters April 20 outside the Federal Court of Canada in Toronto, where his hamlet’s judicial review is underway today. Supporters of the hamlet held a noon-hour rally, when organizers served country foods to the public to show the importance of a traditional diet to Inuit. Natanine and residents of his Baffin community want the court to reverse a National Energy Board decision to permit seismic testing in Baffin Bay and Davis Strait, saying they were not properly consulted and that they fear for the health and safety of marine wildlife in the region. Natanine called public support for the case “amazing.” (PHOTO BY SARAH ROGERS)
