Photo: National Inuit leader says don’t put Inuit into a bind

Terry Audla, president of Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami, speaks April 22 at an Earth Day event in Ottawa organized by the Canadian Climate Forum, the WWF and a U.S group called Arctic 21. Audla warned that Inuit are often caught in a “distressing bind” rooted in well-intentioned but misinformed Arctic environmental campaigns. He urged climate change researchers to respect the constitutionally-protected co-management regimes that Inuit have negotiated and to respect the Inuit desire to become full partners in Arctic research.
