Photo: Nunavut film makes Academy Awards live action shorts shortlist

Throat Song, a 17-minute short film shot in Iqaluit, has been shortlisted among the top ten live action short films that will advance in the voting process for the 86th Academy Awards. One hundred and twenty films had originally qualified in the category. The 2012 film was written and directed by Toronto-based Miranda de Pencier and produced by Kugluktuk native Stacey Aglok MacDonald. The film centres on a young Inuk woman named Ippik, pictured here and played by Rankin Inlet actress Ippiksaut Friesen, who is caught in an abusive relationship. (FILE PHOTO)
