Photo: Nunavut’s “Arctic Rose” arrives with a load of food bank supplies

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

Singer-songwriter Susan Aglukark paid a visit to Iqaluit’s community soup kitchen, Dec. 18, where she helped stock up the Niqinik Nuatsivik Nunavut food bank in Iqaluit with a large 300-kilogram shipment of food she brought in from Ottawa, through her Arctic Rose Project charity. Food bank chairman Stephen Wallick, left, said the contribution will help cover supplies for at least two months. Some 400 to 500 Iqaluit residents rely on the food bank, and almost half of them are children. “There seems to be a bigger need over the Christmas holidays, and children should not go without,” Aglukark said. She also arranged to send about 150 kilograms of food to Rankin Inlet’s food bank, Deacon’s Cupboard. Read more about the project later on Nunatsiaqonline.ca. (PHOTO BY PETER VARGA)
