Photo: NWTel staff still trying to restore Iqaluit phone, data service

Two Northwestel trucks sit below a broken cable line on Queen Elizabeth Way in Iqaluit June 18. Yesterday, Northwestel said a tear-down of the cable “occurred due to excavation work unrelated to Northwestel.” An update on Northwestel’s website June 18 says services have now been restored at Qikiqtani General Hospital, but “work continues to restore service to all affected customers.” Approximately 1,000 Iqaluit Northwestel users lost phone and data services on the morning of June 17. The telecom said then that customers should expect to be without service “for longer than 24 hours.” (PHOTO BY DAVID MURPHY)
