She said she used to wonder what made the water glitter before eventually realizing it was the jellies. In fact, this one looks like a comb jelly, sister creatures which are slightly different from regular jellyfish. It might be an Arctic comb jelly, commonly found near the surface of cold, northern waters, according to the Smithsonian’s Ocean Portal website. It has special “colloblasts” which, upon contact with other organisms, act as a glue, allowing the comb jelly to pull food into its mouth. It also has bioluminescence which allows it to glow.
