Photo: Take that! And that! NS students learn Tae Kwon Do in Ottawa

Nunavut Sivuniksavut students Desiree Autut and Ben Kaniak square off during their first Tae Kwon Do lesson, courtesy of the Embassy of South Korean. Korea has just obtained observer status on the Arctic Council and wants to nurture relationships with Arctic peoples. The Korean embassy in Ottawa reached out to NS and offered to provide students regular lessons in Tae Kwon Do, Korea’s famous martial art. The embassy got the students’ measurements and brought in custom-made outfits for them, emblazoned with the NS logo. The first session began with a formal ceremony attended by Korea’s Ambassador Cho Hee-yong. The lessons will continue weekly over the coming months while students are in the program.
