Photo: Taking advantage of summer weather to pass on skills

Members of the Ilisaqsivik Society’s elders committee prepare a skin for drying with the help of local youth from Clyde River in June of this year on the land north of town. The award-winning Ilisaqsivik Society, which offers a variety of recreation and wellness programs for all ages and needs in the Baffin community, holds these camps and activities free of charge year round. This week-long camp involved six elders and six youth and one counsellor. They hunted seal, geese, and fished for char. “The youth practiced preparing seal meat and seal skins, drying fish, preparing geese and sewing skins,” the society posted on their Facebook page.
