Photo: Who takes the cake? Aqpik Jam cake decorating contest

The Aqpik Jam festival’s popular cake contest received some stunning entries this year. Judges had a tough time deciding Aug. 14 but settled on one made by Sammy Kudluk — the one that’s being pointed out above. Kudluk adorned the cake with musical instruments made from honeydew melon. The final day of the annual Kuujjuaq festival featured games and a barbecue down at the beach as well as an evening musical line-up that featured Salluit’s Elisapie Isaac and Saali & The Ravenhearts.
