Second Iqaluit convenience store in a month held up and robbed
“You better hope you can hide”
Iqaluit RCMP have confirmed that somebody robbed the recently-opened Baffin Gas convenience store in the Plateau subdivision between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. Feb. 10.
Sgt. Jean-Guy Lalonde, speaking to Nunatsiaq News Feb. 11, said police will provide more details at a press conference later during the day of Feb. 11.
“It’s currently under investigation, so there’s really not any more information right now,” Lalonde said.
Police did not confirm how many suspects they are seeking, whether they were armed, or what they stole.
Iqaluit’s Craig Dunphy said he is the father of a Baffin Gas worker who was on duty at the time of the robbery, and vented his anger on Facebook.
“That was my daughter you stupid piece of shit!” Dunphy wrote on the Iqaluit Rant and Rave Facebook page.
“You better hope you can hide. Or smarter for you… turn your sorry ass in and plead prison.”
Dunphy’s Facebook post said the robber wore black clothes and a camo scarf or neck warmer.
This is the second robbery at an Iqaluit convenience store in a month.
A man or male youth held up the Quickstop convenience store on Apex Rd. Jan. 10, using what appeared to be a handgun.
“Time to form a serious Neighbourhood Watch group, this is getting ridiculous!” Tim MacLeod posted in response to Dunphy on Facebook.
MacLeod, general manager of Nunastar Properties Inc., has taken to Facebook recently to draw attention to petty community crimes.
