Teenaged boy dies in Cambridge Bay after dirt bike hits truck

A collision between a dirt bike and a truck Sept. 13 killed a teenaged boy in Cambridge Bay, police said Sept. 14.

On Sept. 13, at about 3:20 p.m. police in Cambridge Bay responded to report of collision between a pick-up truck and a dirt bike on a gravel road near the airport.

The wreckage caught fire. Cambridge Bay’s fire department was then called in to put out the fire, police said.

An ambulance took the 14-year-old boy, the driver of the dirt bike, to the Kitikmeot health centre, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said the youth wore a helmet.

A family of four inside the pick up truck were uninjured.

Drugs and alcohol are not suspected to be factors in the collision, police said, no foul play is suspected, and no charges are being considered.

Mental health resources in the community are helping families and people in Cambridge Bay deal with their grief, police said.

The driver of the dirt bike was Nathan Taylor, the son of Dave and Mona Taylor.
