Two more male suspects have been charged in connection with the April 12 armed robbery of Iqaluit’s Kentucky Fried Chicken and Pizza Hut Quickstop, an April 15 news release from the Nunavut RCMP said.
And charges have now been laid in the April 6 robbery, which is connected to the April 12 robbery, the statement said.
The two new suspects — one of whom is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act because he is under 18 — appeared at the Nunavut Court of Justice in Iqaluit April 14.
The Nunavut RCMP said April 13 that two youths, both young men, had been arrested in connection with the April 12 robbery, bringing the total of accused persons in the robbery to four.
April 12 marked the second time in less than a week that the same Quickstop was robbed.
The first armed robbery took place there on April 6, police said.
On April 15 police said further investigation resulted in additional charges against one of the youths already arrested in connection with the April 6 robbery. A third youth has also been charged in connection to the April 6 incident, police said.
In addition, an adult male has been arrested in connection with both robberies, police said.
One of the two new suspects — the youth — has been charged with a number of firearm-related offences, as well as intent to commit an indictable offence while concealing his face.
The other new suspect—the adult—faces numerous robbery and firearm-related charges, as well as failing to comply with court undertakings.
The April 13 RCMP statement said that around 2 p.m. on April 12, two males, one of whom brandished a firearm, entered the Quickstop.
An April 7 statement from Nunavut’s RCMP said a firearm was also used during the April 6 armed robbery, with the two suspects clad in black clothing with their faces covered.
The three youths facing charges in connection with the April 12 robbery appeared together April 14 for bail review hearings before a Justice of the Peace.
