Searches head off more trouble, RCMP says

The Nunavut RCMP says they’ve reduced a possible “spike in calls for assistance” because of two sets of contraband seizures in Pangnirtung and Qikiqtarjuaq this past week.

In Pangnirtung, a dry community, cops arrested a man and a woman June 26, seizing 14 bottles of bootleg vodka and 28 grams of weed.

The pair will appear before the Nunavut Court of Justice Aug. 30 to face charges under the Liquor Control Act.

In Qikiqtarjuaq, cops arrested a man at the the local airport and found 16 bottles of vodka in his luggage and quantities of hash and weed on his person.

The man, 32, is to appear in court Aug. 23.
