Adults responsible for keeping kids out of trouble, MLA says
Nattilik MLA Uriash Puqiqnak rose on the final day of sitting to ask that residents of Gjoa Haven work together after the community’s co-op burned down last week.
“The RCMP found the people that set the fire and they are children. It is not acceptable that youth crime is on the rise. It is not acceptable that we as parents, as a community, as a government, continue to watch this happen without doing a thing,” he said.
“It is the responsibility of the entire community to ensure that children are given opportunities to grow into adults that contribute to Nunavut. It is our responsibility to keep children out of trouble. That is why the government must take every opportunity to invest in our children. I am not just talking about money, but about our time and commitment.”
