Bernier exhibit in Italy

A traveling version of the Ilititaa exhibit about the early Eastern explorer Capt. Joseph Bernier is now in Italy, following a tour of France. Between now and the end of 2005, Bernier will visit Milan, Venice and Rome.

“There’s a real interest among Italians for the North and its people,” said Stéphane Cloutier of Iqaluit, who curated the exhibit.

Last October, Cloutier opened the exhibit in Turin where he also spoke at cultural centres and schools.

“The students made wonderful drawings inspired by my stories about Canada’s Far North and the meeting between Inuit and the Kapitaikallak [Bernier],” Cloutier said.
