A Cape Dorset man, Billy-Joe Nuna, 22, now faces charges following the seizure of two pounds of marijuana and eight bottles of illegal vodka at the community’s airport.
Police say they arrested the man as he stepped off an aircraft at around 3:30 p.m. Feb. 19.
Nuna, who was released after his arrest, will appear before the Nunavut Court of Justice May 11 in Cape Dorset.
Police estimate the potential re-sale value of the seized contraband to be around $54,000 for the marijuana and $2,600 for the illegal liquor.
The RCMP also says the made the seizure after getting a tip from someone in the community and said they’re thankful for getting such information from members of the public concerned about the harm done to the community by alcohol and drugs.
