Greenlanders split on missiles

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

IQALUIT — Greenlanders’ opinions on the proposed U.S. missile-defence system at the Thule Air Base are divided three ways: 37 per cent are against it, 32 per cent are for it and 30 per cent have no opinion.

Those numbers are the result of a recent poll done by the Greenlandic Analysis Institute at the behest of Greenpeace, according to the Nordic Business Report.

In contrast, more than 70 per cent of Britons polled are opposed to a similar missile base on British soil. The British fear a radar upgrade at any U.S. military base in the United Kingdom would make the U.K. a target if the U.S. is ever attacked.
