Hope fades for local female trekker

Last week, the French polar outfitter company, Cerpolex, announced it will end the search for French-Finnish polar explorer Dominick Arduin, 44.

Arduin has been missing for over three weeks, after she set off solo for the North Pole from Siberia. Rescuers did locate the hat of Frédéric Chamard-Boudet, a Frenchman who set out toward the North Pole at the same time as Arduin, but who has already been rescued.

Arduin, who lived in Ivalo, Finland, was due to reach the North Pole on May Day. She was to receive new supplies twice during the journey, but she was not at the drop site to meet the first flight.
