Keeping the power on
Hydro-Québec and Nunavik’s civil security officials want to make sure communities never have to live without power, as the residents of Kuujjuaraapik did for days in October following a fire at their power plant.
Hydro-Quebec recently said it would be willing to maintain emergency electrical generators in each Nunavik community.
However, due to the price attached to having Hydro-Québec mechanics maintain this equipment, the Kativik Regional Government is asking the power company to train one mechanic in each community who would repair and maintain both the community’s regular and emergency generators.
