Mask mandate ends in Nunavut schools, GN offices
Masks still required in clinics, elders facilities, Iqaluit’s hospital as COVID-19 still circulating in community
Masks are no longer required at Nunavut schools or territorial government workplaces.
The Health Department announced the change, which is effective immediately, on Monday evening.
Masks are still required in community health centres, elders facilities, the Akausisarvik Mental Health Facility and the Qikiqtani General Hospital in Iqaluit.
The majority of COVID-19 restrictions ended April 11, when the Government of Nunavut lifted its public health emergency.
Mask mandates may be ending, but a public service announcement from the Health Department still urges anyone who is feeling unwell to stay home.
Wearing masks is still encouraged as well, to limit the spread of COVID-19, which is still circulating in the territory. The GN stopped reporting case counts in April, when the public health emergency ended.
In mid-June, Health Minister John Main said there may be another wave of COVID-19 in the fall, as new variants continue to spread.
