‘Misunderstood’ Whale Cove mayor won’t pull hamlet from NAM
“We have not made any decision to pull out,” Percy Kabloona says
The mayor of Whale Cove says he does not plan to pull his hamlet out of the Nunavut Association of Municipalities and was misunderstood in the association’s annual general meeting last week.
In an interview on Monday, Dec. 14, Percy Kabloona said he meant he was not benefiting from being on the NAM executive committee, not that he didn’t see the benefit of Whale Cove being part of NAM.
Kabloona said he did intend to resign from his position as second vice-president of NAM.
“It’s not that we’re pulling out, it’s just myself resigning from the executive.”
“I will have a talk with executive director Tony Bird and NAM president Kenny Bell to discuss this further on,” he said.
While it may be fun to try and pull out, it can lead to a lot of unexpected repercussions down the line you may not be thinking of at the time…

Healthy communities don’t pull out!
It is unfortunate we have been forced to become so anglo-saxonized, that more often than not, we defeat ourselves. Some say things are changing but…..where? how?
What is your problem ?
I agree us Inuit live in a modern Western culture, but nobody is forcing us !!
For those who want a traditional, pre-colonial lifestyle, go for it. Why not ?
Anglo-Saxon – I’m guessing that the Anglo-Saxons would be surprised to hear that. We’re definitely not Gallic, I’ll agree to that though.
Maybe we should give a a different European culture a try, maybe Celtic? Just don’t give Slavic a try, probably not a good fit. The world has had bad luck with the Teutons, so let’s keep away from that. Nordic seems to be the European culture of the month – we should look at that.
It’s o.k. to be misunderstood sometime . Anyone outside of this matter should not be quick to put in their point of view , besides , you don’t have a clue what is going on.
