Nunavut’s COVID-19 tally rises to 80 active cases
11 new cases, four recoveries reported in Iqaluit on Sunday; Kinngait and Rankin Inlet hold steady with 2 cases each

Eleven new cases of COVID-19 in Iqaluit along with four recoveries brought Nunavut’s number of active cases to 80 as of Sunday, Premier Joe Savikataaq said in a Twitter update on COVID-19 in the territory.
There are now 76 active COVID-19 cases in Iqaluit, two in Kinngait and two in Rankin Inlet, he said.
The changes mean there were seven more active cases across the territory on Sunday than there were on Saturday.
“There have been 40 recoveries since this outbreak began,” Savikataaq said on Sunday.
In the Northwest Territories, the Office of the Chief Public Health Office is also dealing with a new positive case in Yellowknife.
Yellowknife public health officials and NWT’s chief public health officer Dr, Kami Kandola identified a number of public exposures, including the Quiznos Restaturant at 314 Old Airport Rd. on Thursday between 6:15 p.m. and 7:15 p.m.
Residents of Nunavut who think they may have been exposed to COVID-19 or who are showing symptoms are asked to call a hotline at 1-888-975-8601 between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. eastern time.
Symptoms of COVID-19 include sore throat, runny nose, new or worsening cough, shortness of breath, loss of appetite, muscle ache, loss of taste and smell, tiredness, fever or upset stomach.
Nunavut’s chief public health officer, Dr. Michael Patterson, Health Minister Lorne Kusugak and Savikataaq will hold a COVD-19 update on Tuesday at 11 a.m. eastern time, which can be viewed online.
Sad. Everyday same announcement. Cases increase more than recoveries. Would any action plan to stop the spread or reduce the case? Wondering how many case will be after a week or a month, Iqaluit soon become a pandemic city if no tight or emergency plan to help Iqalummiut. Our honor Premier, Chief Medical Office and GN please do more for Nunavummiut.
I think that Dr. Patterson has done a tremendous job, individually, to do as much as possible to keep Covid at bay. The minister of health only took on the portfolio mid pandemic (why the shuffle?), and the Premier, although ultimately responsible for the Territory, has been agreeable if not proactive and reasonable throughout. The implementation of quarantine hubs at tremendous expense has been instrumental in maintaining Nunavut’s safety.

But, it’s not an air-tight territory. The virus was bound to get in at some point. At this point, it’s up to people to do what’s right. Not the government.

Maybe maintaining a lifestyle of evening darts and attending wing nights was a mistake? Perhaps assuming Iqaluit was privileged enough to have open Karaoke nights was a bad idea?

I know Rankin is taking extra measures that seem to be in line with Iqaluit: Pakalak Tyme!

i want the kids go back school termarrow. too mcuh noise in the house. just make the airplanes from homewerk kids back to school now plz they dont get sick with each other

OMG! I live in a smaller Community and I’ve been so paranoid about this damn virus since it started that I’ve kept my kids at home A LOT OF TIMES Even when they got so upset with me because they wanted to go to School! Unbelievable to know how at ease you are about sending your kids back to School just for the sake of your Peace! I’d Rather have my Kids at home with Me making all the noise they! we’re a yelling screaming type of Family Lol Royal Rumble type LMAO!

– #1 get vaccinated the more adults that are vaccinated the fewer places for this virus to incubate. 50% is still waaay too low.
-#2 stop congregating in large groups. On my dog walk yesterday I saw at least three bonfires with large groups of people standing around unmasked. If you don’t want to still be in lockdown in August STOP DOING THAT!
– #3 stay home, wear a mask and avoid interacting with anyone outside your immediate household.
The GN can only do so much to assist, but what it comes down to is the PEOPLE adhering to all the Public Health protocols that are currently in place. The people have to do their part to protect themselves and the other residents of the communities.

Nunatsiaq, you may want to fly this ‘quite house’. I worry for the children’s safety. All too eager to ‘get rid’ of their kids. Do the right thing, you had those kids, take care of them and make sure they are safe, this virus doesn’t care how old you are.

STOP travel to and from NWT NOW . GNWT and GN stop letting people come/go from Yellow Knife to Iqaluit there is so many cases and variances
