Paperwork before progress

The department of human resources is preparing job descriptions for all GN positions as part of its goal to increase Inuit employment, Peter Kilabuk, the minister of human resources said this week.

Part of the work involves removing “artificially inflated requirements in education and experience,” he said.

In early 2003, the department will be able to identify the GN’s priorities for hiring.

GN creates fisheries fund

The department of sustainable development will provide emerging fisheries in Nunavut with $350,000, Olayuk Akesuk, the minister of sustainable development said this week.

The Fisheries Development and Diversification Fund will provide a maximum of $50,000 per project over the life of the fund.

Similar programs are usually funded 80 per cent by the federal government, but the GN is picking up the entire tab on this one, Akesuk said.
