Quebec announces $8.1M for 4 Nunavik projects
Support for work in Quaqtaq, Inukjuak and to help Co-op, Kativik Ilisarniliriniq programs
The Quebec government has announced that nearly $8.1 million will go toward supporting four projects in Nunavik.
The funding comes from the Northern Action Plan, a program aimed at supporting northern economic development in the province, according to a news release.
The largest amount, nearly $4 million, will go to Tuvaaluk Landholding Corp. in Quaqtaq to build an accommodation complex near the community’s airport.
Kativik Ilisarniliriniq will receive approximately $1.5 million to acquire heavy machinery for its northern construction worker equipment operator vocational training program.
Sirivik, an Inukjuak-based food centre, will get $2.1 million to build a new community food centre and greenhouse.
The Co-op federation will get $525,000 to implement electronic labelling in all 14 communities’ stores.
Denis Lamothe, the MNA for Ungava, welcomed the expenditures in a news release.
“With this contribution, the Government of Quebec is reaffirming its commitment to northern Quebec residents,” he said.
Thank for money
Will this mean that kuujjuaq gas station will finally be open regularly? Right now it’s crippling along, open in blue moon only, no telling when it opens, but one thing I can say, when it do open! It becomes the most annoying announcement on the fm local. Announced every 2 minutes for hours it seems. But if there’s a funeral, they’ll announce that it will be closed , as though! It’s always open. Be nice to see that service operational. Hey, coop kuujjuaq, put the beer store in the gas bar, be creative.
Not a bad start. Now to get vocational teachers to stay and not drop ship midterm.
