The death of a seven-year-old girl in Iqaluit this week is under investigation, Nunavut RCMP says.

“At this moment there is no information I can provide as this is an ongoing investigation,” RCMP spokesperson Cpl. George Henrie said in an email.

Emergency services attempted to save the child’s life Wednesday around 1 a.m., City of Iqaluit spokesperson Aleksey Cameron said in an email.

“Iqaluit Emergency Services attempted to resuscitate the child and transport [her] to hospital, however attempts to resuscitate [her] were unsuccessful.”

Neither the police nor city spokespeople would say where the death occurred or describe its circumstances.

When asked for that information, Cameron said the city “cannot provide further comment” due to the RCMP’s investigation.
